Houston Jones ::: Saturday, July 11-8pm $15 & $8

The Woodland Opera House presents Houston Jones with very special guest Joe Craven

The Woodland Opera House will present Houston Jones with very special guest Joe Craven in concert on Saturday, July 11 at 8 p.m. at the theatre at 340 2nd Street. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children 17 and under.

"Houston Jones plays Americana music. A typical show will encompass bluegrass, folk, blues, jazz, rock 'n' roll, gospel, the separate categories of country and western - with a little Spike Jones and Chico Marx thrown in for seasoning!" says Houston.

Members of the band are Glenn "Houston" Pomianek on lead guitars and harmony vocals; Travis Jones on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and harmony vocals; Peter Tucker on percussion and harmony vocals; Chris Kee on stand up bass, cello, guitar and harmony vocals; and Henry Salvia on keyboards, accordion and vocals with an occasional wallop on the cowbell. Special guest Joe Craven will also perform at the July 11 concert.

Their show is comprised of original tunes including, "Some Sweet Day," a gospel rave-up written by Chris Kee. "Behind These Walls," a classic murder ballad written by Travis Jones. "Ghosts Of The Inland Sea," a crossover sound between Pat Metheny and Ramblin' Jack Elliott written by Chris Kee. "Ornothopathy," a post-bop bluegrass/Broadway tribute to Charlie Parker by Glenn Houston and Henry Salvia and "Keeper Of The Flame," a straight-ahead blues written by Peter Tucker and Chris Kee.

Inspired by the Beatles, Glenn Houston picked up the guitar at age 14 and by age 19 was playing professionally. Houston's long list of awards include a Bammie for his work with the band, Hearts on Fire, and the number one spot for the 2009 Northern California Bluegrass Society's "Guitarist of the Year." Additionally, he co-founded and played lead guitar for the critically acclaimed acoustic group, The Waybacks.

Travis Jones started singing gospel with his mom, blues singer and recorded artist Lottie Mae Adams, when he was just four. Known as the "Golden Voice of the Gulf Coast," Jones has shared the stage with such notables as: Asleep at the Wheel, Waylon Jennings, Night Ranger and the Doobie Brothers.

Peter Tucker was written up by Rolling Stone Magazine as "one of the most creative percussionists to emerge in rock music." Among those he has recorded and/or gigged with are Richie Havens, Tim Hardin, The Beau Brummels and Brad Delp, lead singer for Boston.

Chris Kee is a classically trained cellist with a degree in ethnomusicology. He has recorded and shared the stage with such folks as Norah Jones, Peter Rowan, Lyle Lovett, Los Lobos and Bela Fleck.

When he is not playing with Houston Jones, Henry Salvia plays with the Johnny Nocturne B and and works with such artists as: Rickie Lee Jones, Johnny Colla (of Huey Lewis and the News), Johnny Adams and Big Lou the Accordion Princess.

Performing with Houston Jones will be very special guest Joe Craven. For almost 17 years, Craven was the highly respected multi-instrumentalist with the David Grisman Quintet. Having played and/or recorded with Jerry Garcia, Stéphane Grappelli, Maria Muldaur, Vassar Clements, The Persuasions, Psychograss, The Alison Brown Quartet, Darol Anger, Rob Ickes, Bob Brozman, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, spoken word maven Ken Nordine and many others, Joe has performed music and sound effects on a wide variety of recordings includingcommercials, soundtracks, computer games and several Grammy nominated projects.
