It has been an incredibly mild summer. Hopefully everyone is enjoying the great weather we're having.

I'd like to talk about the proper interval for having an oil change performed. The old rule was to have your oil changed every 3000 miles or three months, whichever came first. With the evolution of the car's onboard computer system all that has changed. Most of the newer cars factor in things like driving habits, temperature and even air-quality. With this new technology and the use of synthetic lubricants you can go much farther between oil changes. Most cars have a vehicle maintenance warning system that will determine when your oil change needs to be performed. At that time it will trigger a light or message on your instrumentation letting you know it is due.

We can help you with all of your automotive servicing needs. We have all the latest technology and information to help you decide when your oil should be changed and what type of oil should be used for your vehicle. Things like transmission fluid, radiator coolant and spark plug changes for most vehicles are not due until 100,000 miles. Remember at 100,000 miles most vehicles are due for major servicing. You can find these intervals listed in your owner's manual or we can provide you with that information, just ask.

We were due to have another new smog check program go into affect January 1, 2012. Currently, the Bureau of Automotive Repair has postponed this for at least one year. Presently, vehicles 1975 through 1995 are required to have a smog check and low-pressure fuel evaporative test. 1996 and newer vehicles require a smog check without a low-pressure test. All diesels 1996 and newer require a smog check as well. If you have any questions about vehicle smog check requirements feel free to call.

Tip… Tip… Tip... * If you do not use a major brand gasoline it is a good idea to add a fuel additive every third tank or so. This helps keep the fuel pump and other components clean. Remember, the days are getting much shorter and it is a good idea to have your headlamps adjusted. You will be surprised at how much better you can see at night.
