Drawing of the Gibson House

The Gibson Home

Massive wooden columns , formal pediment and a uniquely original series of cut decorations spelling the name "Gibson" reflect some of the character of the ten room house that is now the Yolo County Historical Museum. This 1850's-70's Classical Revival home, extensively remodeled before the turn of the century, was built by William Byas Gibson and occupied by his family until 1963. It now houses rooms of furnishings depicting different styles and eras. The 2 ½ acre museum include the main house with 11 rooms and outbuildings housing a root cellar and dairy display, a laundry display, a blacksmith shop and other barns and buildings. A new facility which includes a catering kitchen, dressing area and accessible restrooms. Acquired by the County of Yolo and opened to the public on a regular basis, the house and grounds are here for your pleasure.

The Gibson House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only historic home in Yolo County open to the public. It has an active group of tours and school docents and a green thumb group that propagates plants for the grounds and regular plant sales.
