Data Summaries, Tables 5 & 6 Federal Projections

The following tables describes a simple (or simplistic according to some) approach to calculating the federal budget over many years. Changes, as with anything touched by the federal government, are expected. So, these are examples that could be a starting point.

Tables 5 and 6 show projections for the current federal budget process and how the federal deficit and debt problems could be addressed. Table 5 is based on continuing the federal government’s current spending behavior, while Table 6 shows how the federal deficit and, eventually, the national debt can be addressed by limiting growth of spending to less than growth of revenue, assuming continued growth of the U.S. economy. Both Tables 5 and 6 were developed as Excel spreadsheets where table results are calculated from entries in the “Required First Year” and “Required Assumptions” cells.

The tables below have sliders for viewing cells that are not visible, or an entire table can be seen by clicking on the “printer” button in the PDF ribbon and then cleared by clicking on the printer cancel button. Copies of these tables can be downloaded by clicking on Table 5 DOWNLOAD and Table 6 DOWNLOAD as interactive and editable Excel files, or copies of the original Excel spreadsheets are available on request [ Click Here to request Excel files ] . You must have Excel or a compatible spreadsheet program to use and view these files. The change in federal debt shown in these tables is based only on the previous year’s difference between revenue and spending.
